about

"I wrote the song Something Missing shortly after finding out a friend of mine had died. He was 21 and one day just accidentally slipped and fell over the railing of a spiral staircase and fell five stories to the bottom. What struck me hardest was the absurdity of it. Our daily lives are a series of mundane actions that leave deep and permanent impressions on us, and I think music has always been a way for me to transform those experiences and push them back out in a way that re-inscribes them with meaning. That’s really a central theme to the entire album, and we chose to release Something Missing as the single because it’s very representative of that, both musically and lyrically."
- Dean Parnell

lyrics

I had a dream that you had died
went up in flames with victory cries
I had a dream that you were gone
long before your time
someone said you snuck away
with a giant grin, well you’d say
you never cared about
how things were ‘sposed to be

well you set before the sun
and now you’ve got me wondering how to move on
left us all at 21 and now there’s something missing
well you set before the sun
and now you’ve got us crying
all alone
waiting for you to come home
