No Shadow 04:19
well it may be a long time before we see the sun again drifting out across the sky as the darkness descends let’s leave this old world behind like a flicker in the haze let all we were and all we’ve known fade with yesterday no shadow backwards from the sun you’re the only one no echo distorting all we hear our minds are free and clear well all we want is to escape from this rock in outer space let’s rocket to the farthest one where we’re going there’s no days how we live is all our own let’s discover who we are and measure out our years by the slowest burning star no shadow backwards from the sun you’re the only one no echo distorting all we hear our minds are free and clear

sometimes I feel like a stranger in my clothes sometimes I feel like I don’t belong here sometimes I feel like I’m drunk behind the wheel alone at the helm of my imposter spaceship
3.
how many times have we been broken and abused how many ways have we been lied to and misused don’t talk about it repress it more let me touch your open sores it goes on and on and on but maybe one day we will find another way to overcome the pain from our years of scars if I could take away your memories of harm maybe we could start in the open darkness every time I find I’m fighting off the rage I know the icy tears have frozen to your face don’t think about it it hurts too much drown your sorrows in my touch we’ll escape the light of day but maybe one day we will find another way to overcome the pain from our years of scars if I could take away your memories of harm maybe we could start in the open darkness BROKEN ABUSED LIED TO MISUSED but maybe one day we will find a better way to overcome the pain from our years of scars if I could take away your memories of harm maybe we could start in the open darkness

Rebound Girl 02:43
disrupt my vision inject your stare fatal expression from the back of your head your touch is hollow limbs turning blue asphyxiated but what can I do? be my rebound girl I don’t love you but I will be my rebound girl let me show you what I’m made of inside I’m wicked inside I’m dead inside I’ve got nothing but hot molten lead well you’re no angel that look in your eyes like you’d torment me just to see my surprise be my rebound girl I don’t love you but I will be my rebound girl let me show you what I’m made of

she insists she take the wheel needs music she can sing to and her voice becomes the taste I spit into the sink the blood with mint did I bite my tongue as you began to steer? the passion and the fear what am I doing here? submerging emotions in the boiling bathwater evaporating patience, shaking to the cadence of our slow decrescendo can this be the end though or will we fade until our dying day
6.
the spiral staircase we descend is dimly lit our voices echoing the sound of wet cement the outline of your body like porcelain stumbling forward into the blackness take me down to the bottom let me feel your scorn take me down to the bottom let me feel your warmth take me down to the bottom let me feel your scorn take me down to the bottom let me feel your warmth down in the basement with the placement of police men on the chase ticketing the weak men we don’t give a shit, just throw it in the waste bin, every time I fake belief that a ghost can haunt with a vengeance in the absence of a reason to pursue fate to the end ascending to heaven is the worst penance just to get sent back down to the bottom take me down to the bottom let me feel your scorn take me down to the bottom let me feel your warmth take me down to the bottom let me feel your scorn take me down to the bottom let me feel your warmth I prod you like a child fingers mud with some twisted dirty glee so curious and deep inside I know that it’ll take more than soapy water to get you off take me down to the bottom let me feel your scorn take me down to the bottom let me feel your warmth take me down to the bottom let me feel your scorn take me down to the bottom let me feel your warmth take me

I had a dream that you had died went up in flames with victory cries I had a dream that you were gone long before your time someone said you snuck away with a giant grin, well you’d say you never cared about how things were ‘sposed to be well you set before the sun and now you’ve got me wondering how to move on left us all at 21 and now there’s something missing well you set before the sun and now you’ve got us crying all alone waiting for you to come home
9.
Good Enough 04:05
it was a bright cold day I reached my hand to you all I could see was your white teeth smiling and happiness it seemed was easy to achieve and for a moment with you I thought I knew who I wanted to be why weren’t you good enough good enough for me why weren’t you good enough good enough for me why weren’t you good enough good enough for me nobody’s good enough good enough for me and I’ve seen too many tears in my rearview mirror to think yours will be the last and I’ve lost count of departing cars and promises that I’ve broken in the past and I’d say I’ll change my ways but we’ve both know that’s a lie I just wanted you to know I still remember everything you said why weren’t you good enough good enough for me why weren’t you good enough good enough for me why weren’t you good enough good enough for me nobody’s good enough good enough for me

Hey Depression, can I address you as a person? you’ve been lingering around again reminding me that we were friends Hey Depression, how did you know it’d be so soon that I’d come crawling back to you on hands and knees and so confused? Hey Depression Hey Depression Hey Depression, have you been waiting all this time on the shore of my subconscious as I sailed out to the wind? Hey Depression, were you watching as I laughed through all those years of happiness knowing that it couldn’t last? Hey Depression Hey Depression

Resonance 05:11
no echo distorting all we hear our minds are free and clear no shadow backward from the sun you’re the only one no echo distorting all we hear our minds are free and clear no shadow backward from the sun you’re the only one that I’ll ever know no echo distorting all we hear our minds are free and clear in this atmosphere and now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering and now it’s over

I feel it burning from within our potential fusion magnetic pulsing disease erotic gravitation and we could outshine galaxies with the velocity of sunshine expanding in the night like a stardusty horizon all we say and do and everything we know when all is said and done doesn’t matter at the back of the sun all we see and feel and all our hesitation when we’re all dead and gone doesn’t matter at the back of the sun And now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering And now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering And now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering And now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering all we say and do and everything we know when all is said and done doesn’t matter at the back of the sun like a shockwave through the cosmos in our devastating wake when we’re all dead and gone it won’t matter at the back of the sun doesn’t matter at the back of the sun nothing matters at the back of the sun And now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering And now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering And now it’s over like supernova celestial shattering

about

Musically, Back of the Sun is the most ambitious, sonic record we’ve made to date, drawing from a wide pool of influences. Long time fans of Shed Gods will recognize the acoustic arrpeggios, thundering drums, and despondent vocals that have become our trademark, but also an expansion of the instrumental pallet with rumbling electronic soundscapes, mournful cello passages, and haunting piano chords. Lyrically, Back of the Sun is a meditation on escapism. In times of hardship, we often try to transcend, ignore, explain, or disguise our problems. In the end though, the only way to move forward is to transform those experiences into something new. This album is our attempt to hammer out a year of experiences into music as a creative force. So grab your best pair of headphones or jack into some monster speakers and let us take you on a 43-minute journey to the Back of the Sun.
